An “e” makes a huge difference.

Nigel Cooke. Sad Brain, 2004. Oil on Canvas. 23 5/8 x 31 1/2 x 1 5/8 inches. The Rachofsky Collection, Dallas.

Every once in a while, you come across a coincidence that makes you double back and catch your breath. While perusing the internets today, I stumbled across this image that made me rub my eyes in doubt. First look at the similarity in the image pictured above, which is a painting by the artist Nigel Cooke and was included in our FOCUS: Nigel Cooke exhibition that closed last month, and then the AP image. Now take a look at the AP image caption and the name of the photographer. Woah.’

Update:  it looks like the link to the AP photo is dead, however down in the comments, John D links to both images shown next to each other.

  1. [...] Neatorama reader Julie Morris pointed us out to a crazy coincidence that relates to this week’s Cellar/Neatorama Image of the Week: Space Shuttle Discovery Fun Facts. Just take a look at the caption of the image. That one ‘e’ certainly makes a difference! – via Modernblog – Thanks Julie!   [...]

  3. Sorta…

It would make more sense if you “Flipped” the image and then showed both of Nigels and then the Photo of the Shuttle Launch…

  4. Amazing pick up!!!
Even MORE amazing is the comment from Keith Dick!!
Its emblematic of the world today, and Mr. Dick’s obvious inertness that if one has to put a wee bit of work and immagnation to understand what this picture comparison is about, its too late.
Lets try….Mr.Dick,Try to conceptualize in your noggin whichever pic you desire in your head….Oh, see..they are similar. And don’t you even worry about the name similarites…thats WAY over your head.
Next time…work a little harder trying to get the msg before you write nonsense like your comment!!.The point is lost if all the works done for you!!
